Mouth Sounds Re-visited

I think I may have found a way to make the mouth sounds from my neighbor's popping gum go away! I found today that when I heard her start popping all I had to do was get out my cell phone and put it on record mode. I wanted her to hear how loud she is. Well, wouldn't you know it? She stopped! I wonder if she has a camera over here watching me or something. I am going to have to remember this tactic for next week to see if it really works. If it doesn't, then I will post the recording here for all to hear!

I don't know if you're of the "fight fire with fire" frame of mind, but...

If you chew "regular" chewing-gum (sugar-free gums seem to turn to sludge, while bubblegum gets too stiff), you can "out pop" most gum-poppers with this little trick:

Chew all of the sugar out of the gum, so it is nice and pliable. Then, with your tongue, press it into a thin layer against the inside of your upper front teeth. Curl your upper lip while gritting your teeth, and force air out between your (upper) teeth. You can get an amazing cannonade of little pops. Much like walking on a sheet of bubble-wrap. With practice, you can repeat this several times a minute.

While (understandably) annoying to those who abhor the sound of gum-popping anyway, it also seems to annoy your typical gum-popper. I haven't figured out why, but I think it may have to do with an unconscious feeling of sheer inferiority and frustration...

I have thought about doing that and might actually try it. I can get rather loud with my popping and the only thing that has sorta kept me from doing it is that there is one other lady in the office, that I like, who might not like it too much.

I might just have to buy a pack of gum and make it a special occasion:)

So, conspire with her. That way, she knows what's up, and that you'll stop as soon as it either works, or becomes clear that it won't. She might also have her own suggestions... Heck, she might even join in a joint operation of annoying quirks.

And wouldn't you know it? She's out sick today (the one with whom I could conspire)! Well, I've had the hick-ups a bit today and have been bothering my neighbor. It's a little bit of payback on a slightly smaller scale than I was planning; but, it's something:)
